PAM TAYLOR (Nee Drescher)
Moved to Bendigo in 1977 Pam Drescher, a single mother, raising a son and helping out in welfare at a Community Health Centre here in Bendigo.
I started in radio approximately in the year 2000, presenting Saturday Breakfast Show with Peter Williams on Goldfields Radio 3CCCfm on 89.5fm. Not long after that progressed to presenting “Four in the Morning” on Saturday Mornings from 4am until 6am.
At the end of 2000, I decided to do 2 nights of “Overnight Country Request” shows which turned out to be very successful.
In 2008, I resigned from 3CCC which was now known as Fresh FM.
In July 2008 I joined Radio KLFM on 96.5 fm and 106.3fm and still continue to present my 2 nights of “Overnight Country Requests” on Tuesday mornings from 12am until 6am and Thursday nights from 11pm until 6am.
In September 2011, I married my long time partner Brad and happily became Pam Taylor.
ROGER CARPENTER:
Hi, Roger from “Jazz After Hours”,
I discovered jazz at a very young age, listening to the 78 collection of my late father, a notable dance band pianist in England between the wars.
Growing up in the “Trad” boom of 60’s England, I also listened to the wide variety of “Modern” jazz of the US West Coast.
Arriving in Australia in 1969, I caught the Red Onions in their latter heyday and learned about the local jazz scene through the many fine ABC presenters of the day, Arch McCurdie, Ian Neale, Eric Child et al, discovered the contemporary compositions of John Sangster, Galapagos Duck, etc, and further widened my jazz appreciation.
Until recently president of the Centre Vic Jazz Club here in Bendigo, I have been privileged to establish numerous contacts in the jazz world, not only in Australia, but also in the US and Europe via the internet, many of whom generously provide examples of their work as material for the program.
A lifetime collection of records, from 78’s to CD’s, a vast library of jazz-related material and a collection of jazz paraphernalia has provided a fair grounding in my favourite music and I enjoy sharing it with you.
After some12 years of local broadcasting, I am looking forward to continuing the opportunity to present some of the more contemporary “musicks” from my collection, and hope that it provides for you, as it does for me, what the acclaimed American jazz critic and writer Whitney Balliet termed “the sound of surprise”.
I welcome any feedback from listeners.
Cheers……Roger
